Its’ Time to Vote

Dear Editor,

It has been an absolute honor to meet with so many Town of Newburgh voters over these past few months as I run for a seat on the Newburgh Town Council. Our discussions have been open and candid about your unease with the direction our town is headed.

You have expressed concerns about the unsafe traffic patterns, high property and school taxes, and having to spend your hard-earned tax dollars outside our town due to the lack of local amenities here for dining, shopping, entertainment and family and senior activities year ‘round.

Repeatedly I listened to your frustration with the excessive number of storage units (over 15!) and warehouses that continue to pop up in prime locations. These buildings have made our town a drive thru not a destination. We need places to connect and warehouses don’t build community. Voting for the incumbents on the Town Council running for re-election (Ruggiero and Politi) will only bring more of the same.

I am running on the Democratic and Working Families lines to represent all of my neighbors. I will bring balance to the Council where there has been none in over 30 years. November 4th is your opportunity to bring a fresh voice, vision and perspective to the Council. One that truly listens and responds to the desires of the electorate. A candidate who provides checks and balances to the allocation of our tax payer dollars and works hard to create a town that celebrates, not separates, neighbors and brings us together to grow a dynamic and vibrant Town of Newburgh.

This year, you have a distinct choice between a future of opportunity and dynamic growth or the status quo. You have strong candidates who have your interests in mind, not their own. Vote for the future: Mary Lou Carolan, Mary McLymore, Stephen Hunter, Genesis Ramos, Virginia Scott and Gabrielle Hill for a better Newburgh. The status quo must go.
