Vassar Splits Conference Doubleheader With Bard

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Vassar College Baseball team split a Liberty League doubleheader against Bard on Saturday afternoon as the Brewers fell in a 4-2 pitchers duel in game one before bouncing back with a 20-3 run-rule victory in game two. Senior Cade Terada-Herzer broke the pitching appearances record in the second game of the doubleheader with his 52nd career appearance.

Vassar’s record moves to 7-13 overall and 3-6 in conference play while the Raptors’ record moves to 9-9 on the season and 3-3 in Liberty League action.

Game 1 – Bard 4 Vassar 2
Bard scratched out a run in the third inning on a RBI infield single from Lachlan Rudd to take an early 1-0 lead.

Vassar tied the game at one in the seventh on a RBI base hit from junior Noah Stockman and took a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning on a bases loaded walk of first year Jack Biskupiak.

The Raptors struck for three runs in the top of the ninth as Rudd scored on an error, Sergio Hormazabal knocked in a run with a single and Xavier Webb’s sacrifice fly put Bard on top 4-2 for good.

For The Brewers
First year Noah Townsend reached base three times, including a hit, and scored a run while sophomore Dash Edwards adding a double.

Senior Jensen Bergma drew three walks along with Stockman posting a hit and a RBI.

Biskupiak drove in a run and first year Nick Kreatsoulas tallied a hit.

Senior Addison Lee took the tough luck loss after tossing a complete game, allowing six hits, four runs (two earned), three walks and struck out nine.

For The Raptors
Rudd finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI while Hormazabal and Webb both knocked in a run with a hit.

Andrew Penn and Jack Leandri also added a hit.

Kane Morgan earned the win after going eight innings, giving up four hits, two runs (one earned), six walks and struck out nine.

Aidan Kiefer picked up the save with a scoreless ninth inning.

Game 2 – Vassar 20 Bard 3 (Seven Innings)
Vassar broke out with six runs in the first inning of the nightcap behind a RBI single from first year Ethan Fox-Fernandez, a sacrifice fly from first year Garrison Sobo, a two-RBI single from first year Aidan Annello and a two-RBI double from Kreatsoulas to take a 6-0 lead.

Bard cut the deficit to 6-3 over the next two innings following a RBI double from Jamie Fryer and a RBI single from Plenn in the second and Jeremy Hall scoring an error in the third.

The Brewers countered with four runs in the bottom half of the third as Kreatsoulas knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly, Edwards drew a bases loaded walk, Bergman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Townsend scored on a wild pitch.

VC tacked on a run in the fourth on an Annello RBI single to expand the lead to 11-3.

In the fifth, Bergman knocked in Edwards with a single and a RBI single from first year Eric Wallick pushed the Vassar lead to 13-3.

Vassar tacked on seven runs in the bottom of the sixth after a bases loaded HBP of Edwards, a two-RBI single from Bergman, RBI single from Wallick, a sac fly from Stockman and a two-RBI double from Annello to take the final 20-3 lead.

For The Brewers
Annello recorded a 4-for-4 day with five RBI and three runs scored while Bergman posted a 3-for-3 game with four RBI and three runs scored.

Wallick tallied three hits, four runs scored and two RBI along with Edwards posting two hits, three runs scored and two runs batted in.

Kreatsoulas knocked in three runs and added a double while Townsend chipped in a hit and two runs scored.

Junior Will Darrell scored his third win of the season following six innings, allowing five hits, three runs (two earned), three walks and struck out five.

Terada-Herzer’s scoreless seventh inning marked the new Vassar record in appearances with his 52nd of his career.

For The Raptors
Fryer and Plenn each drove in a run and posted a hit.

Hormazabal, Lunt-Woodward and Webb each recorded a hit.

Graham Benway took the loss as he went one inning, giving up five hits, six runs (two earned) and one walk.
