Marist’s Season Comes to a Close

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Marist University men’s tennis team saw its season come to an end with a 4-1 loss to Rider in the MAAC Championships final on Sunday evening.
Freshman Alejandro Abella Fernandez provided Marist’s lone point with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.

Rider claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Sophomore Ian Layton and sophomore Gregor Heinemann fell 6-2 at No. 2, while graduate student Jose Catala and sophomore Fateh Singh dropped a 6-4 decision at No. 3. Senior Nick Suhanitski and junior Thomas Bevan were tied 5-5 at No. 1 before the match went unfinished.

The Broncs secured the match with wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5. Catala fell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, while Layton dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 2. Bevan was edged in three sets at No. 5, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-2.

Matches at No. 4 and No. 6 went unfinished.
