Ramapo Catskill Library System Honored

MIDDLETOWN – The Ramapo Catskill Library System (RCLS) has been named a 2026 Community Champion Award Recipient by the Community Foundation of Orange, Sullivan & Rockland as part of its Rockland Edition Signature Award Reception.

Founded in 1959 by 25 public libraries, RCLS now supports 46 member libraries serving 94 communities, with a service footprint reaching more than 850,000 residents across Orange, Rockland, Sullivan, and southern Ulster counties. Through shared services, a cooperative catalog of more than 2.4 million items, and a delivery system that moves more than 1.7 million materials annually, RCLS helps ensure access, efficiency, and meaningful cost savings for local taxpayers.

Under the leadership of Executive Director Grace Riario, RCLS continues to strengthen public libraries as essential hubs of learning, connection, and opportunity. Her lifelong connection to libraries, which began as a teenager relying on them as a vital resource, reflects the heart of the organization’s mission and community impact.

“This recognition reflects the power of collaboration across member libraries and the communities they serve,” said Riario. “Together, we continue to expand access, foster innovation, and ensure libraries remain welcoming spaces for education, connection, and opportunity.”

RCLS was recognized for empowering libraries to meet the evolving needs of their communities through innovative services, strategic partnerships, and shared resources that maximize local impact.
