MOUNT VERNON – Board of Education President Dr. Donna Marable and trustees Dr. Chris McDonough and Erica Peterson were recognized with Board Achievement Awards by the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA). They were presented with certificates noting the achievement by Superintendent Dr. Demario Strickland at the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday.
Trustee Marable was honored with a Level 3 Board Achievement Award, Trustee McDonough received a Level 2 Board Achievement Award, and Trustee Peterson received a Level 1 Board Achievement Award.
In their recognition letters, NYSSBA wrote that the trustees received these awards due to their “ongoing association professional development and/or accepting additional leadership roles.”
The trustees each stressed the importance of civic participation and continuing to learn more about their role on the board to better serve the community.
“When I became a trustee, one of my main goals was to make sure, not only for myself but for the community, that I educated myself as much as possible,” said Trustee Peterson.
“I encourage people to get involved civically and take it seriously. It is a complicated role and there’s a lot to learn, so keep trying,” said Trustee McDonough.
“Thank you to NYSSBA for encouraging us to continue our education. We are a board of education, and education is important. And so again, I encourage each and every one of you to continue to learn more and more and more,” Trustee Marable said after receiving her recognition.
