Dabein Walker Wins Individual Title in the High Jump

NEW YORK – The Mount Saint Mary College Men’s Track and Field program had a big weekend in its first ever appearance in the ECAC Championship. Dabein Walker won the individual title in the High Jump and the Mount set four school records over the two-day event.

On Friday, the Distance medley team kicked off the night running a new school records time of 11:09.73. Thomas Hofbauer lead off with a 3:27 split in the 1,200-meter portion, followed by Walker running a 400-meter in 57 seconds. Sean Farrell then ran a 2:06 in the 800-meters, followed by a smoking hot 1,600-meter leg of 4:30 by Kenneth Barrett.

Not to be out done the 4 x 200-meter team of Isaiah Bevans-Didymus and Jahnique Dessaline ran the first two legs in a combined time of 47.2 seconds, followed by Nick Murphy at 23.58 seconds and John Novak running the 200-meter anchor leg in 23.17 for a new school standard of 1:33.96.

Saturday morning Bevans-Didymus left it all on the track in his last indoor meet running a blistering 1:08 flat to break his own indoor mark in the 500-meter dash to place fourth overall.

Walker finished off a successful weekend for the Knights when he cleared 2.0 meters in his last attempt at that height to steal the high jump from the field of athletes. Walker hit his personal best on the most important opportunity of his career cashing in an individual ECAC crown for himself and the new school record.

“The coaching staff and I are so proud of everyone this weekend. Not only did they all come prepared to run but they brought their A game. I know the men have been training so hard, and the weather has not been cooperative at all this past month but these guys make no excuses. I am excited for all of them and thank them for their dedication this winter season,” said Head Coach Fred Callo

Following the conclusion of an excellent indoor season, the Mount will begin the Outdoor schedule on March 30 with the MSMC Invitational.
