KINGSTON – Students in Meagan Carey’s, Meghan Landerway’s, Elizabeth Gabriel’s, and Anyssa Desarme’s third-grade classes at E. C. Myer Elementary School explored three different versions of the Stone Soup folktale from around the world—the original French tale, a Chinese version, and a Mexican adaptation. This tied into their Social Studies unit on global communities and reinforced key reading skills from the Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum. Even more importantly, it taught students about gratitude, teamwork, and the magic of contributing to something bigger than ourselves.

After reading about Stone Soup, the classes brought the story to life! Students from all three classes contributed different ingredients, and together, they cooked their own Stone Soup. Just like in the tale, they discovered that when everyone contributes a little, the whole community benefits a lot.
