HYDE PARK – Hyde Park Central School District will be starting the 2026-27 school year with a new principal for Ralph R. Smith Elementary School. Nancy Harris, a seasoned educator with a wealth of experience, will join the district and is ready to welcome students back on the first day of school, Sept. 8.
“Ms. Harris brings over 25 years of exceptional educational experience and a proven track record of effective, dedicated leadership as an elementary principal in the New York City Department of Education,” shared Hyde Park Superintendent Dr. Pedro Roman. “Her commitment to academic excellence and nurturing supportive learning environments for all students makes her an ideal fit for our district,” he added.
Harris most recently served as the principal of the Spruce Street School, a public PK-8 school in lower Manhattan. “Serving as principal for 17 years allowed me to cultivate a joyful learning environment centered on the student experience and anchored by authenticity,” explained Harris. “Working alongside students, staff, families and the broader community, I hope to build on the many successes at Ralph R. Smith,” she added.
Harris, who has split her time between the Hudson Valley and New York City for years, is looking forward to working in a place where she has put down deep roots. “I am passionate about public education and the role it plays in the local community,” Harris shared. “From skyscrapers to rolling hills, I am ready to translate my experience and expertise.”
Ralph R. Smith students and their families had a chance to meet Ms. Harris during a Principal Meet & Greet.
