Saturday the Les Soeurs Amiables Civic Club of Beacon celebrated its 73rd Annual Spring Scholarship Luncheon Saturday. The community and youth focused group has been involved in educational affairs, attended City Council meetings as well as served in a host of city committees and is a proud affiliate of the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs, Inc. and Youth Affiliates.

The community of Ulster County has kicked off a major fundraising effort to assist Hannah Berryan, a young Ulster County woman. Hannah was just sixteen years old when she was severely injured by a texting driver while walking on Morton Boulevard in the Town of Ulster on July 12, 2014.

Brian Benjamin Tapped For Lieutenant Governor

Deaconess Doris Brown of the City of Poughkeepsie was a Servant Leader at the Soup Kitchen, located at the Beulah Baptist Church in the City of Poughkeepsie for the past 38 years, before retiring earlier this year in January. In addition to serving hot meals, Brown and her dedicated team of volunteers provided groceries, offered health fairs with HIV and AIDS Testing, participated in The Crop Walk for Hunger, as well as a safe haven, full of compassion and love. The Soup Kitchen will continue to operate under the guidance of Brown’s replacement, Deaconess Marilyn Ashe.
