MSMC Black Knights Rally Past Farmingdale State

NEWBURGH – Seniors Destiny Ribadeneyra and Nicole Cavallo each scored second half goals as the Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Soccer team came-from-behind for a 2-1 win over Farmingdale State on Wednesday. The win gives the Knights their first unbeaten league schedule since 2014 and secures them the top seed in the upcoming Skyline Conference Championship.

Farmingdale State got off to a quick start on Wednesday, finding its only goal of the game in the 11th minute. Edasia Martinez pounced on a turnover in the box by the Knights and snuck a shot inside the left post at 10:12 to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.

The Rams outshot the Mount 6-5 in the opening 45 minutes and took three of the four corner kicks prior to halftime, but could not find an insurance tally.

Mount Saint Mary got the game even early in the second half when Ribdeneyra found the back of the net for the 20th time in 2017. She took a free kick from the top of the box and buried the shot at 56:48 to even the score at 1-1.

Just under eight minutes after the tying goal, the Mount found the eventual game winner in the 65th minute. Ribadeneyra started a corner kick that was headed by Bridget McKeever to Cavallo who tucked her fifth goal of the season under the bar at 64:39.

The Knights limited the Rams to just three shots in the second half and none in the final 10:58 of regulation time while playing a man down.

Ribadeneyra finished the night with a goal and an assist, running her team lead in all three categories to 20 goals, 14 assists and 54 points. Cavallo tallied her second game winning goal of the season and McKeever produced her 11th assist and 43rd point.

Senior Mary Riley closed the night with a pair of saves in the win. She has won 13 of the Mount’s 15 games thus far and holds a 0.98 goals against average and a .803 save percentage. Daniella Ford closed the night with four stops for Farmingdale State.

Shots in the game were even at 9-9, while the Knights held a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. Corner kicks went to the Rams 6-2 on Wednesday.

At 15-3-1 overall on the season and 9-0-0 in league play, the Knights will open the Skyline Conference Championship on November 1 against the winner of the Purchase, St. Joseph’s-L.I. First Round game. Kick-off at Kaplan Field is set for 4:00 p.m.
