Knights Run Winning Streak To Four At Mount Saint Vincent

RIVERDALE – Senior Jessica Rini posted season-highs in points with 21 and rebounds with 15 as the Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Basketball team pushed its winning streak to four games with an impressive 76-46 road win at the College of Mount Saint Vincent Saturday afternoon.


The Knights never trailed in the game, getting off to a good start in the contest with a 7-0 run. Rini and Kayla Cleare converted buckets over the run around a Jordyn Hellpap triple in the first 2:03 of the tilt.
 
The Mount moved its lead to double figures for the first time on a Rini jumper that pushed it in front 17-6 late in the first period and a Rini lay-in with 13 ticks left in the first quarter gave the Knights a 23-12 advantage after 10 minutes.
 
Mount Saint Mary did not let Mount Saint Vincent closer than nine points in the second frame and ran out to a 20-point lead, at 40-20, on an Elizabeth Limonta bucket with just over two minutes left before halftime. The lead grew to a half-high 22 points on a Morina Bojka bucket in the closing seconds of the half to send the Knights into the break with a 46-24 advantage.

The Knights shot an efficient 54.1-percent from the floor over the first 20 minutes of action and held the Dolphins to a 35.7-percent conversion rate. Rini went 9-for-13 from the floor in the first half, posting a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds prior to the break.
 
The Knights did not allow Mount Saint Vincent closer than 20 points the remainder of the contest and moved out in front 54-28 on a Cleare lay-in with 5:28 left in the third period. The advantage grew to 31 points on a Hellpap triple early in the fourth frame and then to a game-high 35 points on a pair of Bojka free-throws with 2:23 left to play.
 
Rini was one of three players to score in double-figures on Saturday, finishing with game-highs in points and rebounds on 10-for-16 shooting. She added three blocked shots and a pair of steals. Cleare wrapped up the win with 16 points and 11 caroms with Limonta coming off the bench to produce 14 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
 
Hellpap, Katie Smith and Bojka each finished with six points with Hellpap and Smith leading the way with four assists apiece.
 
The Knights shot 45.5-percent for the game and held the advantage in points in the paint 36-12, second chance points 14-8 and points off of turnovers 20-6.

Saturday’s win moves Mount Saint Mary to 5-3 overall and to a perfect 4-0 in Skyline Conference action. The Knights return to action at home on Farmingdale State on December 14. Tip-off with the Rams is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
