Career & Technical Division Partnership Breakfast

GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus and the County were honored at the Orange-Ulster BOCES Career and Technical Division’s Annual Partnership Breakfast on Wednesday, May 1st at the Gibson Road campus.

The event celebrates BOCES’ partnership with businesses that support its students, which benefit from this collaboration through job shadowing, internships (paid/unpaid) and other work-based learning opportunities.

“The County has enjoyed a wonderful relationship with Orange-Ulster BOCES’ administrators, teachers and its students,” Neuhaus said. “This recognition is indicative of that partnership and our accomplishments. It is always a pleasure spending time with students from the Career and Technical Education program and the County looks forward to continuing this partnership.”

Neuhaus spoke to guests at the event on Wednesday via Skype. The County Executive is a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy currently assigned to Naval Special Warfare and deployed abroad in the Middle East.

Career and Technical Education programs give students the opportunity to graduate from high school with technical experience, professional skills, national industry certifications, and college credit in a wide variety of high-demand occupations. Through a hands-on academic component in each classroom, CTE students are able to integrate academics into their CTE curriculum to meet their high school graduation requirements.

Many of the career academies are nationally accredited and feature leading-edge technology, as well as instructors with the latest trade experience. The CTE curriculum is aligned with New York State Learning Standards, National Industry Standards, and Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) Standards.

“Orange County Government has been wonderful in supporting our students with work-based learning opportunities,” said William J. Hecht, Orange-Ulster BOCES District Superintendent. “These learning experiences are incredibly valuable. They allow our students to get real-world work experience, build their resumes, and practice their soft skills. They also give students the opportunity to network, which sometimes leads to job offers. We are very grateful to County Executive Neuhaus and all those in County Government departments who support our students. It takes time, patience and flexibility to host students, and Orange County Government has consistently gone above and beyond.”
