Army Forces Overtime, Ties Lumberjacks

WEST POINT — The Army West Point women’s soccer team scored the game-tying goal in the 80th minute of its season opener versus Northern Arizona to force overtime on Thursday night.

Following two overtime periods, the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Erynn Johns scored the Black Knights’ equalizer with 79:42 on the clock during regulation and totaled two shots on the night.

Northern Arizona went up 1-0 in the eighth minute when Madison Montgomery broke free up the middle off a pass by Sam Larberg.

The Black Knights altered their attacking formations throughout the game to try and gain an offensive edge over the Lumberjacks. Army succeeded in the 80th minute when Lauren Drysdale booted the ball from midfield to the top of the box where she connected with Johns who tapped it past the goalkeeper in the bottom left corner of the goal.
