MSMC Knights Run to 12th Place Finish

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Cross Country team continued the 2019 season on Saturday at the Fred Pavlich Invitational hosted by Bard.

Junior Samantha Papadopoulos led the way for the Mount, who finished in 12th place out of 18 teams with a point total of 314.

Papadopoulos was the Mount’s lead runner for the first time in 2019, coming home in the 46th position overall in a field of 160 runners. She made her way around the 6K course in a time of 27:20.9 for the Knights.

Freshman Ashlyn Rivera continued the strong start her career on Saturday, finishing the race in 62nd place in a time of 28:27.6. Senior Diamond Umunna was the Mount’s third finisher, completing the circuit in a time of 29:31.2, good for 74th place overall.

The Mount’s top-five also featured senior Aine Higgins and Meaghan Rohan. Higgins finished the race in 79th place for the Mount in a time of 29:53.7, while Rohan posted a time of 31:21.7, finishing 97th overall.

Senior Alexandra Bergen and sophomore Joanne Kubat also turned in strong showings on Saturday. Bergen crossed the finish line in the 98th position in 31:29.3, while Kubat posted a time of 37:01.4, placing 137th overall.

Vassar claimed the team event with a score of 28 and the Brewer’s Keara Ginell won the individual crown with a time of 23:04.7.

Next up for Mount Saint Mary is the 12th Annual MSMC Knight Invite on Saturday, October 5 at the Hudson Valley SportsDome in Milton, N.Y.
