Free of Charge Bulk Item Pickup Program

NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh is pleased to announce the resumption of its bulk item pickup program starting Wednesday, April 28, 2021. The bulk item pickup program will resume on a bi-monthly basis for the remainder of 2021, and will be free of charge to all residents. Additional scheduled bulk item pickup dates per the program are June 30, August 25, October 27, and December 29.

Under the program, households can dispose of up to five (5) bulk waste items. Residents will have to schedule their bulk item pickup with the Department of Public Works division of Sanitation and put out their bulk items at curbside no earlier than the night before collection. Multi-unit dwellings have the option of scheduling a pickup by referencing their individual unit.
The collection of bulk items is limited to indoor/outdoor furniture, washers/dryers, and tires. Building materials, car parts (except for tires), and hazardous items will not be collected.

Anything beyond the allotted five (5) items will be left in place and must be removed by the residents. Yard waste collection will continue on scheduled monthly bulk item pickup days. Separate arrangements must be made for bulk item pickups on days outside of the program.
Residents must call the Sanitation line at (845) 565-1082 or the Department of Public Works at (845) 565-3297 by 3:00 p.m. the Tuesday before the collection date to schedule a pickup. Calls and messages received after the cutoff time will not be scheduled for pickup.

Information regarding non-pilot program bulk items and yard waste pickup can be found via the City website at https://www.cityofnewburgh-ny.gov/public-works/pages/bulk-items-and-yard-waste-pick-up.

The bulk item pickup pilot program implemented in the last quarter of 2020 was welcomed by residents citywide. The program’s success resulted in the collection of over 92 tons of garbage and almost 2,000 bulk items for City of Newburgh residents.
