Black Knights Split Doubleheader with Colgate

HAMILTON – The Army West Point softball team split its doubleheader with Colgate on Saturday. The Black Knights won the first game 3-1 and dropped the second contest 8-2.

Army wasted no time getting on the board in the front end of the doubleheader. Taylor Drayton hit a two-run blast over the center field fence, which scored Angelina Bebek, in the top of the first.

The Raiders cut Army’s lead to one in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single off the bat of Mia Guevarra. However, the Cadets expanded their lead back to two runs in the top of the sixth with Bebek hitting home Kayla Edwards.

Bebek went 3-for-4 from the plate in the first game. Drayton and Leila Hurst also had multi-hit efforts with two apiece.

In the circle, Jolie Duong improved to 5-0 on the season. The Houston native pitched a complete game and issued six strikeouts and no walks. Her one run allowed was unearned.

She now owns a 1.71 ERA on the season.

After allowing a leadoff walk in the second contest, Alicyn Grete retired 12 of the next 13 batters she faced. Through four innings of play she had only surrendered one hit.

Army got on the board in the top of the fifth with Bebek scoring Maddie Wilkes on an RBI single up the middle. Kayla Edwards came around to score in the next at bat to make it 2-0 in favor of Army.

The Raiders answered back with seven runs in the bottom half of the inning and added one more in the bottom of the sixth.
