Vassar Soccer Suffers Loss at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Ella Stone had a goal and an assist leading the Skidmore College women’s soccer team to a 3-0 win over Vassar College on Saturday. The Thoroughbreds move to 6-3-1 overall with a 2-1-1 league mark, while the Brewers are now 6-4-1 with a 1-2-1 Liberty League record.

Melissa Haas scored directly on a corner kick in the 13th minute when her high cross floated over the crowd of players and twisted into the net. The Thoroughbreds took a 2-0 lead into halftime after Stone converted a boot from 23 yards out in the 28th minute. Carly Craft guided the ball into the open net in the 76th minute after Stone’s shot was initially saved.

The Brewers were held off the scoresheet despite winning the shot battle, 15-12. Vassar also had eight corner kicks, while Skidmore finished with six.

For Vassar, rookie keeper Julia Reigrut made two saves, and freshman forward Madison Bouggess finished with a game-high four shots, including three on goal. Craft and Stone each had three shots to lead Skidmore, while Ava Keller made nine saves.

Skidmore returns to action this weekend, traveling to Ithaca and RIT on Friday and Saturday. The Brewers are also on the road, traveling to the North Country for games against Clarkson and St. Lawrence on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
