ECAC Loss Concludes Mount’s Soccer Season

ALFRED – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Soccer team saw its seasons come to a close on Saturday afternoon following a 3-0 loss to William Paterson in the First Round of the ECAC Championship. Christina Kakavas finished the game with a single save in goal.
Saturday’s loss closes the Mount’s season at 11-8-2, while William Paterson moved to 9-8 overall and will take on Alfred in the Pod 1 Championship contest on Sunday.

First Half
The Pioneers got all the scoring they would need in the 16th minute when Megan Ponce potted the eventual game winning goal at 15:53.

William Paterson would take the one goal lead into the intermission.

The Pioneers outshot the Mount prior to halftime 4-0.

Corner kicks in the opening stanza were even at 2-2.

Neither goalkeeper was credited with a save in the opening 45 minutes.

Second Half
William Paterson tacked on a pair of insurance goals in the second half.

Kayla Miller scored in the 68th minute to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead and Julia Fiorito closed out the scoring in the game with a marker at the 74:03 mark of the contest.

The Mount’s first shot of the game came off the foot of Brittany Bornstad in the 57th minute.

Mount Saint Mary was outshot in the half 4-2.

Each team took one corner kick in the second half.

Kakavas made her lone save of the contest in the second period.

For The Knights
Bornstad and Lauren Engel were credited with shots in the game.

Kakavas finished with one save and closes her first collegiate season with 72 stops, an .800 save percentage and a 1.08 goals against average.

For The Pioneers
Three different players scored unassisted goals.

Miller led the team with two shots, including one on goal.

Erica Hickey made one save to earn the shutout in goal.

Match Statistics
William Paterson finished the day with an 8-2 advantage in shots, including a 4-1 edge in shots on goal.
