MSMC Blue Knights Take Two Games From CCNY

FISHKILL – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team scored a doubleheader sweep over CCNY Friday, taking game one 9-4 before taking the set with a 3-2 game two victory.

Anthony Franco and Ryan Lutinski sparked the game one victory with two RBI apiece.
Friday’s sweep moves Mount Saint Mary to 3-5 overall on the season while CCNY falls to 2-7 in 2022.

Game 1: Mount Saint Mary 9 – CCNY 4
The Knights fell behind 4-0 after a half inning, but rallied to tie the score in the bottom half of the first frame.

Liam Merlin tripled home Franco to get the Knights on the board ahead of a run scoring single from Dominick Marzigliano and a sacrifice fly from Coleman Barnes.

Mount Saint Mary got even in the first when Lutinski delivered Brandon Nolasco with the team’s second sacrifice fly of the frame.

The Knights pulled in front in the second when Franco scampered home on a wild pitch.

The Mount tacked on three more runs in the home half of the third to pull in front 8-4, keyed by a run scoring double from Lutinski and an RBI single off the bat of Franco.

Mount Saint Mary closed out the scoring in the game in the sixth when Franco scored on a throwing error.

For The Knights
Franco finished the opener 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, scoring three times and driving in two others.

Marzigliano recorded a pair of hits, scoring a run and driving in one.

Lutinski finished 1-for-1 with a double, walk, run and two RBI.

Merlin, Nolasco and Jack Goodwin each finished with a hit and a run with Merlin adding an RBI.

Liam Horan picked up his first career win in relief, working 3.0 scoreless innings and striking out four.

For The Beavers
John Creegan closed the opener 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Tyler DiBlasi finished with a hit, run and two RBI.

Michael Chasanov doubled, scored a run and drove in one.

Richard Vento suffered the loss, allowing four runs in 2.1 innings while fanning five.

Game 2: Mount Saint Mary 3 – CCNY 2
Mount Saint Mary allowed an unearned run in the top of the third and trailed 1-0 until plating three runs in the home half of the sixth.

Devin Tait worked a two-out walk in the sixth to start the late rally and later scored the tying run on a CCNY miscue.

Luke Barone pushed the Knights in front when he scored on a wild pitch before Adam Leone crossed with the eventual tying run on another CCNY fielding mistake.

The Beavers recorded two hits in the their final at-bat and scored a run on a passed ball, but could not pull even.

For The Knights
The Knights were held to three hits in game two with Marzigliano, Cullen Roper and Ben Crowley all singling.

Tait, Barone and Leone scored the runs.

Tait, Leone and Roper all finished with a stolen base.

Matthew Boriello earned the win on the mound with six strong innings of work, allowing one unearned run on five hits while striking out eight.

Brian Gregory picked up his first career save in the win.

For The Beavers
Victor Murra Schott, Jonathan Rivera and Sardar Kahnbilvardi all posted two hits.
Creegan and Rivera scored the two CCNY runs.

James Dean Johnstone took a no-decision, working four shutout innings with three strikeouts.

Josue Rodriguez suffered the loss, allowing three unearned runs in 2.0 innings.

The Knights are off until March 23 when they play host to Baruch.
