Hyde Park Library to Host a Quilting Event

HYDE PARK – This summer, Hyde Park Library is hosting an event like none before. One of our library’s newest employees, a page named Quinn, is an avid quilter and has organized a quilting exhibit and raffle to benefit the library. Quilters from around the world have sent individual quilt blocks displaying their individual styles, tastes, talents, and pride to our library for this event. Many have included statements about why they choose to quilt. We have, so far, received blocks from 3 countries (The United States, Canada, and Australia have all arrived and we are expecting a block from Saudi Arabia), 35 states, 100 people, and well over 100 blocks! There are more arriving every day!

For the months of June and July, the S. June Keyes Library Annex building will be displaying these stunning blocks for the community to see and admire. (Exhibit can be viewed during business hours when annex is not in use.) When the exhibit is completed and taken down, the blocks will be converted into quilts and raffled among the community. All proceeds from this event will be donated directly to the Hyde Park Library.

This project has become a global effort and the outpouring of support was both surprising and inspiring. There will be an open reception for all to come together on a single day to appreciate this stunning, one-of-a-kind display of fiber art. Join us on Saturday, June 11th from 12pm – 2:30pm for refreshments and a special viewing.

The library hopes you will join them for the open reception or to stop by and see the exhibit when you can. You do not need to be a quilter, an artist, or a patron of our library to attend this event and to appreciate the beauty the global quilting community has shared with us.
