Reyna Records 100th Career Hit in Sweep of Cobleskill

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Vassar College Baseball team won a pair of pitchers duels on Sunday afternoon as the Brewers defeated Cobleskill 2-0 in seven innings in game one before senior Luke Barrientos’ walkoff infield single propelled Vassar to a 2-1 victory in game two over the Fighting Tigers. Vassar’s record improves to 9-11 overall while Cobleskill drops to 5-12 overall on the season.

Game 1 – Vassar 2 Cobleskill 0
(7 innings)
Game one was a pitching duel between Vassar starter sophomore Will Darrell and Cobleskill starter Dylan Schwam as both teams were held off the scoreboard early and often.

The Brewers tallied a run in the second inning on a failed pickoff attempt that plated senior Luke Barrientos, who reached on a two-out single.

Vassar tacked on a run in the sixth after junior Jensen Bergman led off with a single, advanced to second on a balk and was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from senior Daniel Laderman.

Junior Taison Jemison knocked in Bergman with a single through the middle to make it 2-0.

Game 2 – Vassar 2 Cobleskill 1
(8 innings)
Cobleskill got on the board in the top of the first as Trevor Grieb was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and came around to score on a Vassar error.

VC evened the score at one in the sixth as Laderman reached on an error and Jemison singled to center to put Laderman in scoring position.

After Laderman advanced to third on a wild pitch, senior Marc Milano laid down a safety squeeze bunt to score Laderman and make it 1-1.

The game was sent to extra innings as Cobleskill’s Jeffrey Gutierrez led off with a double in the eighth and advanced to third on a passed ball with one out.

Junior Cade Terada Herzer struck out the next two hitters to strand the runner at third and gave Vassar the chance to walk it off in the bottom half of the inning.

Bergman drew a one-out walk and Laderman singled through the left side to make it first and second with one out.

Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and Jemison was intentionally walked to load the bases.

Barrientos came to the plate with two outs and singled in between first and second to send Bergman home for the extra innings victory.
