Brewers Close Weekend With Sweep Of Union

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Vassar College Women’s Tennis team won its third straight contest to start Liberty League play Sunday afternoon with a 7-0 sweep of visiting Union.

Ananya Krishnan won her team leading eighth singles match in the victory.

Sunday’s victory pushes Vassar back above the .500 mark at 6-5 overall and to 3-0 against league rivals. Vassar improves its winning streak against Union to 31 matches with the Garnet Chargers falling to 2-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Doubles
Vassar jumped out to a 1-0 lead with victories in all three doubles matches on Sunday.

Erin McCusker and Iris Li won their third straight decision on Sunday with a 6-0 first doubles victory.

At the middle flight, Maddie Kirby and Krishnan won their fourth straight match and improved to 7-3 on the season with a 6-1 victory.

Gwendolyn Gray and Sara Lippin teamed together for the second time this spring at third doubles and scored a 6-2 victory against the Garnet Chargers.

Singles
McCusker eased to a 6-1, 6-0 first singles victory for the Brewers.

Li won for the fourth time in 10 decisions at the second slot with an impressive 6-3, 6-0 win.

Krishnan moved to 8-3 on the spring and won her fifth straight decision with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking at the third position.

At the fourth spot, Kirby cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory for Vassar.

Liya Pomfret improved to 6-5 on the spring with a 6-2, 6-3 fifth singles victory.

Esme Nix returned to the lineup and moved to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the sixth slot.
